The Workshop

The brief for participants will be to capture stand alone images over the four day shooting period in Chennai. Our theory will focus on the development of an increased awareness of your surroundings and of the conscious/subconscious mind’s-eye-choreography of elements and subjects that lies at the heart of successful street photography.

A note from Philip Blenkinsop:-
We will have four days of shooting and daily group edits/critiques followed by a final day where the focus will be on the skills needed to construct a coherent narrative with the images edited from the week’s work.

Participants can expect between two to three hours of theory/editing each day and will be expected to invest a further four plus hours on the streets shooting each day.

Don’t expect a holiday. We will be working hard, (and hopefully finding time to play a little too).

I look forward to working with the twelve selected and to seeing the results of the week.

My advice for preparing a portfolio. Give me images with soul. Images that speak to me. Images that are impossible to ignore. Images that ask questions of the viewer. Work born of an immersion in your passions. I am not interested in seeing how well you can mimic different styles. I am definitely not interested in National Geographic style postcards.

What you will need

We will be working digitally. Participants should have access to a digital SLR camera with, ideally, a manual focus prime lens. 35mm is ideal, but between 28 and 50 work. (you can use a 24 or a zoom if this is all you have but it makes your life harder.)  Laptop with editing programme. Thumbdrive/portable hard-drive.
