Excavating an Imagination (since 2021)
Andreas Langfeld & Sarabhi Ravichandran
Photography has, since its invention, been used as a tool of documentation and evidence in archaeological work. Through their project, “Excavating an Imagination”, the artists Sarabhi Ravichandran (IND) and Andreas Langfeld (GER) seek to examine this entanglement within the processes of shaping and negotiating cultural identity and historical narratives. Their artistic research is focused on the ongoing Keeladi excavation, a site situated 12 km from Madurai and a part of the larger Vaigai Civilisation in the South Indian state of Tamilnadu, and features photographs, films, found footage and interviews with experts from the field of archaeology, history and journalism.
