Time: 04:00 pm - 05:50 pm
Venue: Goethe - Institut

We are excited to announce our first Artist Talks and Curated Projection after the successful 2nd edition of Chennai Photo Biennale.

I. Emerging Talent - Talks by CPB 2019 Artists

Akhila Vijayaraghavan started out as nature and street photographer and has turned her focus towards telling positive stories of womanhood. She started Fierce in 2017 as an ongoing project to explore the strength, joy, and ownership that physical activity brings to women within the Indian context. She hopes that Fierce will kick-start a dialogue on body positivity, especially among young girls who deal with unrealistic expectations of the female body.

Kowshik Vasudevan is a freelance photographer based out of Chennai, India. He has completed the International Photography Program at Pathshala South Asian Media Institute in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He is currently practising photography based on his personal ideas related to environmental issues which are affecting people globally.

II. Curated Projection 'They Found Light Where The Maze Finds Its Way Out' by 13 JARA COLLECTIVE

13 JARA are individuals drawn together by the idea of rooting a sustainable system of cooperation in different art practices and identities. The number 13, as well as the actual number of people involved each time, is arbitrary, as no collective can be called so without a complex whole of interconnected and transformative acts. 13 JARA is a group of storytellers, photographers, editors, designers and a self-publishing house of photobooks, with the idea of mentoring and supporting each other, sharing opinions and knowledge.

“They Found Light When The Maze Finds Its Way Out”, is experimental multimedia that includes photographs, videos, sounds and text, all arranged in a way that follows a structure of a film. The intertwined visual narratives, from existent bodies of work and new imagery created in the scope of the film, are produced by several members of the collective with the intent of sharing a lyrically aesthetic and a political take on today’s conflicts of being.

Come and join us for the talks and to interact with these young Chennai-based Artists followed by the intriguing Curated Projection by 13 JARA COLLECTIVE
