“The plant never lapses into mere arid functionalism; it fashions and shapes according to logic and suitability, and with its primeval force compels everything to attain the highest artistic form.”
Karl Blossfeldt

A German photographer, sculptor, teacher and artist, Karl Blossfeldt worked in Berlin, Germany. He is best known for his close-up photographs of plants and living things, published in 1929 as Urformen der Kunst. Inspired by nature and the ways in which plants grow, Blossfeldt believed that "the plant must be valued as a totally artistic and architectural structure.”

Designed for pre-teens by artist Anuja Dasgupta, the Karl Blossfeldt activity involves participants actively observing a series of photographs shot by Blossfeldt and then writing a poem of their own based on what they see.
