Madras Blues

A participatory exhibition of handcrafted prints on World Cyanotype Day.

World Cyanotype Day is coming up on 25th September, and we're excited to host a one day only curated pop-up exhibition at Roja Muthiah Research Library! Vibrant, handcrafted prints celebrating the city of Madras and the medium of cyanotype will be strung up across the library auditorium.

Here’s how you can participate:

  1. Join us in celebrating the cyanotype printing process!

Take a look at beautiful prints from the cyanotype community across India. Also check out the curated collection of prints capturing the many emotions that is Chennai.

  1. Make your own prints!

Join the fun, experiment with cyanotype, and contribute to the World Cyanotype Day Exhibit. Working with your hands, with simple chemistry, sunlight and tap water, cyanotype allows anyone interested to express themselves in shades of blue.

  1. Take your children along to explore the Activity Corner!

Children can play with colors, learn cyanotype printing, and create their own photograms at our children’s activity corner.

Open call for Prints

We are inviting the cyanotype community in India to send a print or two to our DIY outdoor exhibition to celebrate the medium. The call is free and open to everyone across India. We welcome all enthusiasts, from beginners to long-term practitioners, to share their prints for the exhibition. We truly believe that cyanotype is for anyone interested in experimenting with alternative printing, and would like to invite you to join us.
